UAE Expands AI Investment as Abu Dhabi Targets Next Phase of AI-Driven Finance

The UAE is looking to build and scale artificial intelligence companies across key sectors, with financial services emerging as a major area of opportunity as AI changes how capital is deployed, investment decisions are made and banks operate.

The UAE Ministry of Investment will join global investors, financial institutions, and fintech companies at Ai Everything Abu Dhabi 2026, taking place from October 6 to 7 at ADNEC Centre. The event will focus on the next phase of AI-driven finance and the development of AI businesses in the UAE.

Abu Dhabi’s financial sector already has significant exposure to AI investment. Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) said in September that more than US$100 billion in AI-focused investment is now held by entities established in the financial center.

ADGM also said it will invest more than AED400 million through 2029 to expand its AI capabilities, strengthen digital infrastructure, and modernise its regulatory and operational systems. This investment was announced in September as part of ADGM’s first-half 2026 results rather than as a new announcement on October 4.

ADGM is already applying AI to financial operations

ADGM has already begun using AI within its own operations. During the first half of 2026, the financial centre completed the first phase of its AI implementation across 25 business functions, including licensing, supervision, and customer service.

The rollout reduced manual workload by more than 5,000 staff hours annually and enabled approximately 25% of customer enquiries to be resolved instantly through digital channels, according to ADGM

The financial center is also developing the data, governance, cybersecurity, and workforce infrastructure required to expand its use of AI while maintaining human accountability and regulatory oversight.

Abu Dhabi’s financial ecosystem continues to expand

The AI push is taking place alongside strong growth in ADGM’s wider financial sector. ADGM’s assets under management increased 54% year-on-year in the first half of 2026. The number of fund and asset managers reached 190, while the number of funds managed from ADGM rose to 276.

The financial centre also said institutions established within ADGM now hold more than US$100 billion in AI-focused investment, highlighting the growing connection between Abu Dhabi’s financial ecosystem and the AI investment market.

What businesses and investors should watch

The UAE’s current AI push is moving beyond the development of technology itself. The October 4 report highlights companies working on AI applications for valuation, portfolio risk, market sentiment, trading signals, fundamental and technical analysis, investment advice, and other financial activities.

For financial businesses, this creates opportunities around AI-powered services, financial data, and infrastructure while also increasing the importance of cybersecurity, data governance, and regulatory controls.

For investors, Abu Dhabi’s combination of growing financial activity and increasing AI-focused capital makes the development worth watching as more AI applications move into financial services.

The immediate focus will be on whether the UAE can turn its growing AI investment into companies, financial applications, and capabilities that generate long-term economic value.
